In more detail

I started sailing in about 1972 and, despite early seasickness, quickly became hooked, involving friends, family, and colleagues. Early outings always involved a scratch crew and, as my work included a spell as a management trainer, I gravitated naturally towards the Instructor qualification.

In 1984 the family purchased a small trailer-sailer, since traded-up, and enjoyed family holidays afloat, here and abroad, while the children were small.

I have worked for some 20 years as a commercial skipper on a variety of corporate and leisure charters, with groups of differing expertise and aspiration.  I am a strong advocate of sailing as an excellent environment for team-building and bonding, and I have long held the view that I have learnt more management skills on a yacht than in a seminar!

My corporate activities are conducted in close association with Hamble Point Yacht Charters, for whom I act as Corporate Event Manager and RYA Principal..

My involvement over the years with our work-based sailing club has allowed me to introduce over 100 people to their first taste of sailing. Many of these have progressed to becoming skippers themselves. Since I joined the management committee I have been closely involved with the operation of 14 different vessels.

My sailing experience extends to some 80 different classes of vessel, many different types of rig, and a huge range of nautical equipment and hardware.

I have cruised the South Coast from Chichester to Penzance, The French coast from Fecamp to La Rochelle, and the Channel Islands, Spain and Portugal. Most of my tuition has been in the demanding waters of the Solent, but I have also taught from Plymouth.
